Breast Enlargement (Augmentation)
The size of a woman’s breasts is not something she chooses, it is defined genetically and for many women breasts which are not as large as they like can lead to self-confidence issues and affect many aspects of their lives. The size of a woman’s breasts does change over time in particular with weight gain/weight loss, pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some women may also have breasts which are of two different sizes, and this can once again be embarrassing and difficult to live with. Breast enlargement or augmentation surgery allows women to increase the size of their breasts.
Understanding the Breast Augmentation Procedure
Breast augmentation surgery works by the positioning of an implant. The implants can be placed either behind the breast tissue or behind the muscle which the breast lies upon. The implants are inserted through the incisions usually made underneath the breasts.
Breast implants used in this procedure are made from silicone shell and then filled with silicone gel. They come in different shapes and sizes, with some being simply round and others more shaped. The right option for your body and circumstances is something you can discuss at length before your procedure.
Preparation and Recovery from Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is carried out under general anaesthetic and you will receive a full consultation before your procedure so you can ask any questions and settle any concerns. You can discuss the different options available to you and ensure you are 100% happy with your decision before agreeing to the procedure.
The recovery process of this procedure will depend on the individual but for most women it is relatively straightforward. Most patients should be able to go home the day after the surgery and be back driving within a week. Most women only need around two weeks off work and can exercise again after around a month.
